The statements involving Congress’s top leadership have been made in a supplementary charge sheet filed in the special court. Arrested by CBI and ED for different cases, Mr. Kapoor has been in prison since 2020.

The Yes Bank’s former chief has named late Congress leaders Murli Deora and Ahmed Patel as having conversations with him regarding the sale.

Responding to the allegations, Congress party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi sought to downplay the credibility of Mr. Rana Kapoor. He pointed out that Mr. Kapoor has been behind bars for years and has had 20-30 bail applications rejected, and the government is jumping with joy only because it suits their political angle.

He added that the Yes Bank loans increased from Rs. 55,000 Cr to Rs. 2.41 Lakh Cr between 2014 and 2019, and attributed the rise to demonetization.
