NDA picks former Jharkhand Governor Droupadi Murmu as its Presidental Candidate

Former Jharkhand Governor, Droupadi Murmu, has been picked by the NDA as their Presidential Candidate.

Ms. Murmu, a BJP leader, had served as a Minister in Odisha from 2000 to 2002.

President Ramnath Kovind lauded the decision to choose Ms. Murmu as BJD-led NDA’s Presidential Candidate.

The tribal leader from Odisha, who went on to serve as the Governor of Jharkhand for a full five-year term from 2015, will compete with former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha to become the 15th President of India.

Mr. Yashwant Sinha, who left BJP for the TMC, let go of his association with the TMC to get into the Presidential race.
