Indian Air Force rescues ten people from a flood in Anantapur

The Indian Air Force has executed a rescue mission at Chitravathi river in Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh, on November 19 to save ten people from being swept away in flood.

A depression over the Bay of Bengal that crossed the coast between AP and Tamil Nadu during the early hours of Friday led to a heavy downpour in the state, inundating several localities.

A car with four passengers was stuck in the Chitravathi river, and an attempted rescue mission involving four local swimmers and two personnel from the fire department could not overcome the rising flood. The earthmover used for the local rescue mission provided a ground to stay on.

The Indian Air Force used a Mi-17 helicopter to rescue all ten people. The aircraft operated under difficult conditions, a statement said.

CM Jagan has taken stock of the rains-induced damage and directed the officials to compensate those affected with Rs. 2000 immediately. To those who lost their lives, the government will offer compensation of Rs. 5 Lakh.
