Over the last 24 hours, India recorded 44,658 new coronavirus cases, 32,988 recoveries, and 496 fatalities. As per the August 27 morning update, the number of active infections across the country is 3,44,899.

Active cases now account for 1.06 percent of the total cases, and the recovery rate is 97.6 percent, noted the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

Kerala yet to overpower the virus

God’s own country and tourist haven, Kerala, still reports over 1.8 lakh active infections, accounting for more than half of India’s active caseload. Maharashtra reports 53,908 active cases, Tamil Nadu reported over 18000, and Andhra Pradesh has over 14,000 active cases.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla, who had held talks with officials from both Kerala and Maharashtra, advised better contact tracing and encouraging ‘covid appropriate behavior’ amongst the public.

The central government has also assured the states of adequate vaccine supply.

Meanwhile, 50 percent of the eligible population received at least one dose of the vaccine.

If you are in the 50 percent yet to receive a dose of the vaccine, you may want to see which vaccines are available in the country at the moment.
