Paralympics – Bhavina reaches semifinals in Table Tennis; medal assured

India was assured of a medal at the Tokyo Paralympics as soon as Bhavina Patel defeated the three-time Paralympic medal winner Borislav Rankovic in Table Tennis and entered the semifinals.

Borislav Rankovic won two silver medals and one gold in her previous participation at the Paralympics. She is the defending champion – Rio Paralympics gold medalist.

But the top seed 43-year-old Serbian was offered no opportunity towards a victory, as Bhavina put up a steady pressure and finished the match with 11-5, 11-6, 11-7.

Bhavina Patel will play Chinese player Zhang Miao tomorrow.

Earlier in the day, Bhavina, who lost her opening category match, made a comeback of sorts and won three matches in a row.
