Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Janasena Party president Pawan Kalyan has sparked fresh debate on law and order with his sharp remarks that criminals in the state should consider themselves fortunate because he does not hold the Home Ministry portfolio.

Speaking at a recent public event, Mr. Kalyan asserted that if he were in charge of the Home Department, there would be severe consequences not only for criminals but also for those who support or shield them. ‘I am not the Home Minister, and law and order does not come under my purview. That is why criminals are lucky,’ he remarked, drawing strong reactions across political circles.

The actor-turned-politician, who currently oversees ministries including Panchayat Raj and Forest & Environment, emphasized his zero-tolerance approach toward crime. He stressed that criminals have no caste, community, or age and must be kept away from society without any leniency. Mr. Kalyan added that he is the kind of leader who would deal strictly with lawbreakers and their enablers.

His comments come amid ongoing discussions on maintaining public safety and effective policing in the state. They also follow his earlier public observations on law-and-order challenges, where he has drawn comparisons with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s firm handling of criminals.

Political observers interpreted the statement as both a strong signal of his personal stance on crime and subtle pressure on the coalition government’s handling of the Home portfolio, currently held by TDP leader Vangalapudi Anitha. However, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan has also defended the Home Minister against unwarranted personal criticism from opposition quarters in recent days.

The remarks have quickly gone viral on social media, with supporters hailing them as a reflection of his commitment to a safer Andhra Pradesh, while critics question the timing and implications within the ruling NDA alliance.

As the coalition government completes nearly two years in power, Pawan Kalyan’s latest intervention has once again placed the spotlight on governance priorities, particularly strengthening police action and the rule of law across the state.
