US Service Members play Cricket

The US defense personnel teamed up with the Afghan evacuees to play Cricket at the Aman Omid Village on Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico.

Eight military sites spread across the US are hosting over 50,000 Afghan evacuees.

While the US Defense Department is not responsible for the immigration process, it works with the DHS and other agencies, and more than 10,000 defense personnel currently support ‘Operation Allies Welcome.’

Around 80 – 90 percent of the evacuees have received their COVID-19 vaccinations.

Cricket in the US

Although popular in the US until mid 19th century, Cricket was gradually replaced by Baseball.

A current estimate places the number of those who play Cricket in the US at around 200,000, them being primarily those who have roots in the nations where Cricket is a priority sport.
