Mahatma Gandhi is globally synonymous with India’s fight for freedom, and his ideals of peace, equality, and religious tolerance have transcended boundaries over the years.

PM Modi also called on the nation to buy Khadi (a hand-spun natural fabric) and handicraft products. The Mahatma famously used the fabric in his Swadeshi movement as an alternative to imported clothing, and eventually, the fabric became a symbol of self-reliance.

The Prime Minister also paid tributes to the country’s second Prime Minister, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on his 118th Birth Anniversary.

India is celebrating 75 years of independence, and Prime Minister Modi termed the related celebrations ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and called on the nation to become ‘Aatmanirbhar’ (Self-Reliant).
