Justice UU Lalit sworn in as the 49th Chief Justice of India

Justice Uday Umesh Lalit was sworn in as the 49th Chief Justice of India by President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan on August 27, 2022.

Justice Lalit hails from a family of lawyers and judges and has practiced law since 1983. He worked as a special public prosecutor for the Central Bureau of Investigation in the 2G Spectrum Case.

Justice Lalit was elevated directly to the Supreme Court bench in August 2014.

Born on November 9, 1957, Justice Lalit would be 65 years old in less than three months, so his tenure as the CJI ends on November 8, 2022.

In the brief period of 74 days, Justice Lalit vowed to bring transparency in listing the cases.
