Indian men’s hockey team loses to Belgium, still has a shot at Bronze

Belgium defeated India 5-2 in the semifinals at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday, August 3rd. Indian team still has a chance to win the Bronze medal when they clash with the team that loses the other semifinals, either Germany or Australia. Captain Manpreet vowed to give the team’s best in the quest for Bronze.

Prime Minister Modi wished the Indian hockey team all the very best for their next match.

What happened in today’s match against Belgium?

Belgium’s Loick Luypaert scored the first goal for Belgium in the second minute of the match, but Harmanpreet made the best of a penalty corner in the 7th minute of the game to equal the score 1-1.

Manpreet put India on the top the next minute with another goal, leading Belgium by 2-1.

Alexander Hendrickx converted a penalty corner to a goal in the 19th minute of the game, putting both sides on equal footing. Alexander Hendrickx, who is also the tournament’s highest goal scorer, went on to convert two more penalty corners into goals at the 49th and 53rd minutes of the game.

The Belgian player’s hat-trick goals, two of which were scored in the last quarter, decided the outcome of the match. John-John Dohmen scored another goal in the final minute, giving Belgium a 5-2 victory over India.

India ceded as many as 14 penalty corners in the match, and Belgium made use of four.
