Mr. Morrison had taken on the additional responsibilities of Health, Finance, and Resources, even without the knowledge of the Cabinet Ministers holding those portfolios. Greg Hunt held the health ministry, and Mathias Cormann was the Finance Minister.

While Governor-General of Australia, David Hurley, confirmed that he had approved the taking of extra responsibilities by Mr. Morrison in accordance with section 64 of the constitution, the secrecy behind the actions has got the former Prime Minister’s political rivals fuming.

Anthony Albanese, the labor party leader who took over the office of the Prime Minister in May this year, is considering legal action, Australian publisher ‘The Age’ has reported.

Why did the Ex-PM do it?

Australia has had a few Prime Ministers over the course of the last few years. The lack of political stability in Canberra could always have been a factor.

The local media is probably not being sarcastic when speculating that Mr. Morrison lost trust in his own government and needed a hand in the portfolios where he needed to get decisions done.

Mr. Morrison has not commented on the latest developments. His last tweet was during the May election that he had lost.
