Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy today inaugurated the Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (MCR TIMS) at Sanathnagar – one of the state’s largest government super-specialty hospitals.
Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and senior officials attended the ceremony, held at 4:30 PM.
The event signals the transition of the facility from trial operations to full-scale public service after several postponements. Spread across 22.6 acres within the Government Chest Hospital campus in Sanathnagar (Erragadda), the hospital has a built-up area of approximately 11.68 lakh square feet and was constructed at a cost of around ₹1,070–1,126 crore. It was executed by Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Ltd. under a design-build model.
The project received administrative sanction in April 2022, with the foundation stone laid shortly thereafter.
The institute offers a planned capacity of about 1,082 beds, including roughly 300 ICU beds. At launch, a portion of the beds (around 582) are operational, with the remainder expected to become functional in the coming months. Key features include multiple operation theatres (reports mention 15–31 major theatres), advanced diagnostic facilities such as MRI and CT scanners, a cath lab, and specialised services in cardiology, nephrology and urology, organ transplantation, trauma care, oncology, and neurosciences. It has been designated a centre of excellence in several of these areas.
The hospital began outpatient trial services in May 2026, handling 200–250 patients daily in recent weeks. It is equipped with modern infrastructure, including an AI-based pneumatic tube system for rapid transport of samples and reports – described as a first in a government hospital in India, and has received an IGBC Gold rating for sustainable design. The facility was renamed after former Chief Minister Marri Chenna Reddy in July 2026.
Officials have positioned it as a major addition to public healthcare infrastructure aimed at delivering advanced, affordable super-specialty care and easing pressure on existing major hospitals in the city. Similar TIMS projects are under development at other locations in Hyderabad. The inauguration forms part of the government’s efforts to expand tertiary healthcare access for residents of Telangana.
