A state of emergency has been declared in the Canadian province of Alberta as wildfires ravaged over two million acres. Out of the several active fires, some are classified as ‘out of control.’

Thousands of residents in the affected region had to move to safer locations.

While the local authorities continue to issue advisories and air quality alerts, there are reports of smoke having drifted into the northern states of the US.

In May 2019, Alberta witnessed almost a similar situation.

Hopes for rainfall

The authorities are hoping that the cold weather and rainfall that is anticipated over the next few days could provide respite and aid the firefighters, who now number into thousands.
