The G20 Summit: PM Modi holds bilateral talks with world leaders

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while participating in the G20 Summit, has also been holding bilateral discussions with world leaders.

Mr. Modi met the Indonesian President Joko Widodo (also known as Jokowi) a short while ago, on October 31.

The Prime Minister discussed improving economic linkages and cultural ties. He reiterated the significance of having a strong relationship with Indonesia as a part of India’s ‘Act East’ policy and ‘SAGAR’ vision.

PM Modi meets German Chancellor Angela Merkel

The leaders deliberated extensively on India-Germany relations. PM Modi complimented the outgoing Chancellor of Germany for her leadership in Europe and on a global level.

They agreed that the nations would work together in new areas such as green hydrogen.

Earlier, he met Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez.

The Prime Minister tweeted that their conversation today would reinforce the robust friendship between India and Spain and that they discussed several topics, including trade, technology, and the environment.

His Spanish Counterpart agreed on the need to strengthen economic and strategic relations between the two countries, especially in the areas of shared interest such as the ecological and digital transition.

“The leaders had also welcomed the contract for India to procure 56 C295 aircrafts from Airbus Spain, 40 of which will be ‘Made in India’ in collaboration with Tata Advanced Systems,” said the MEA in a press release.

The Prime Minister asked Mr. Pedro Sanchez to look at investment opportunities in the Indian Infrastructure.

The leaders discussed the forthcoming COP26 Summit.

They also discussed the Indo-Pacific and the need for a rules-based order in the region.

The Indian Prime Minister welcomed the European Union’s Indo-Pacific Strategy, released in September 2021.

Meeting with the Prime Minister of Singapore

The meeting between the Prime Ministers of India and Singapore was focused on bilateral trade, culture, and ways to strengthen the friendship between the two nations.

The Indian leader met Joe Biden for a friendly chat on the sidelines of the G20 Summit. They could have a longer bilateral meeting at the COP26

The G20 Summit

The Prime Minister shared his vision of ‘One Earth, One Health’ and highlighted India’s role in the global fight against the coronavirus pandemic. Another key issue raised by the Prime Minister was the need for resilient global supply chains. The pandemic had highlighted the vulnerabilities in current supply chains, with shortages seen in computer chips to several other materials.
