Russia unleashes airstrikes on Ukraine; UNSC to hold a meeting

Russia has unleashed a fresh wave of airstrikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, resulting in power blackouts. Several regions in Ukraine also reported a disruption in the water supply.

The largest nuclear power plant in Europe, the Zaporizhzhia plant, has lost the external supply of electricity, raising concerns. Rivne Nuclear Power Plant in the southern city of Mykolaiv and Khmelnytskyy Nuclear Power Plant in western Ukraine have also shut down the reactors.

Civilian deaths, including that of an infant, are reported from the attacks.

Following a request from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the United Nations Security Council is holding a meeting.

President Zelenskyy tweeted that the murder of civilians and ruining of civilian infrastructure are acts of terror and that Ukraine demands a resolute response from the international community.

On Wednesday, the European Parliament designated Russia a state sponsor of terrorism. Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova responded that the European Parliament is a sponsor of idiocy.
