Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam on November 19, 2022. The month-long program aims to showcase and strengthen the cultural ties between Varanasi and Tamil Nadu.

The Confluence of Culture and Traditions

PM Modi, who represents Varanasi in Lok Sabha, called the region the nation’s cultural capital while praising Tamil Nadu’s culture as the source of India’s antiquity and pride.

The PM said that the Kashi-Tamil Sangamam is as holy as the confluence of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers.

He said that Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi and Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu are both blessed by Lord Shiva.

Noting the tradition of remembering all 12 Jyotirlingas in the morning, the Prime Minister said that it reflects the spiritual unity of the country.

The Prime Minister also noted that Kashi and Tamil Nadu have always been a source of art and urged the people to remove linguistic barriers and forge emotional unity.

As part of the initiative, more than 2500 delegates from Tamil Nadu will visit Kashi.
