Why ‘Kartavya Path’?

Explaining the remodeled road’s renaming, PM Modi said the erstwhile Rajpath was an icon of power, but Kartavya Path is an example of public ownership and empowerment.

Rajpath, also known as ‘Kingsway,’ was a symbol of slavery, and erasing it was a joyous occasion during the Amrit Kaal of Independence, Mr. Modi said.

Netaji’s statue carved out of a single block of granite, is placed under a canopy where King George V’s statue was once elevated during colonial times.

The placement of Netaji’s statue marks the abolishment of the slavish mentality, an ongoing process, said the Prime Minister.
