Miss Nicaragua, Sheynnis Palacios, won the first Miss Universe title from her country on November 18, 2023, at the event held in El Salvador.
The 23-year-old communications graduate was followed by Anntonia Porslid of Thailand and Moraya Wilson of Australia as the first and second runners-up.
The event broke new ground by allowing married mothers, transwomen, and a plus-sized model to contest.
Pakistan debuted in the Miss Universe pageant, and Miss Pakistan Erica Robin made it to the top 20.
India’s Shweta Sharda also made it to the semifinals but lost out.
