Michaung turns severe, AP and Tamil Nadu on alert

Cyclone Michaung over the Bay of Bengal is moving northwestward at 10 kmph and is expected to make landfall between Nellore and Machilipatnam on December 5, 2023, and is expected to bring heavy rains to coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the maximum sustained wind speed is at 90-100 kmph.

A storm surge of over 1 meter is expected along the coast of Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, Chennai, Tirupati, and Nellore have already witnessed heavy rainfall.

Telangana’s capital, Hyderabad, remained cloudy.

The IMD has issued alerts for Nellore, Prakasam, Guntur, Krishna, and West Godavari districts in Andhra Pradesh and a red alert for the coastal areas.

Fishermen have been advised to keep away from the sea until further notice.

AP Chief Minister YS Jagan has directed authorities to take preventive measures.
