The Andhra Pradesh government has appointed Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Konidela Nagababu (also known as Nagendra Rao) as Chairperson of the Executive Committee of the Andhra Pradesh Society for Greening & Reforestation for Ecological Enrichment (AP GREEN).

The Environment and Forests Department issued the orders through G.O. Rt. No. 93, granting him Cabinet-rank status for the duration of the assignment.

AP GREEN’s core mandate is to expand forest and tree cover across the state to 50 percent of its geographical area by 2047. The society operates with a governing board and executive committee at the state level, supported by District Green Development Agencies (DGDAs) for planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring of plantation, agro-forestry, urban greening, and restoration of degraded lands.

Mr. Nagababu, a senior Jana Sena Party leader and general secretary, is the elder brother of Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, who holds the Environment, Forests, and Science & Technology portfolios. The appointment places him in a key oversight role for the state’s long-term greening mission under the departments managed by his brother.

The society was established earlier in 2026 as part of the government’s priority on ‘Haritha Andhra Pradesh.’ Officials have previously directed the creation of nurseries in every gram panchayat (or cluster nurseries where needed), convergence with central employment schemes, large-scale seed-ball campaigns, and community participation to accelerate reforestation.

The Andhra Pradesh Forest Department welcomed the appointment, stating it looks forward to Nagababu’s leadership in strengthening green initiatives, enhancing tree cover, protecting the environment, and advancing a more sustainable Andhra Pradesh.

Mr. Nagababu, currently serving as an MLC, is expected to coordinate statewide programmes, monitor progress toward the 2047 target, and work with district-level agencies to expand ecological enrichment efforts. The Cabinet-rank designation applies for the period of his tenure in the post, subject to the terms outlined in the government order.
