Kerala rains – PM Modi speaks to CM Pinarayi Vijayan

At least 25 people have died in Kerala as the heavy rains induced flash floods and landslides.

The rains lashed the state from around October 16 owing to the pockets of low pressure over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and took stock of the situation. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased.

Floods and Land slides

The districts of Kottayam and Idukki bore the brunt of the incessant rain, while other districts in the south and central Kerala were also affected.

This was the situation in Koottickal town, Kottayam, where more than ten people have died from the landslides. At least 8 people have died in Idukki.

Indian defense forces, along with the NDRF, have rushed to the rescue.

The Indian Navy sent choppers to provide relief materials to those affected by the landslides.

The state government has announced a compensation of Rs. 4 Lakh to the families of the deceased.
