Switzerland held a tight defense throughout the game, and the match looked headed for a draw, but just seven minutes ahead of time, a volley from Brazilian midfielder Casemiro made it past goalkeeper Yann Sommer to break the deadlock.
Almost all the 32 teams in 8 groups (A-H) have played two matches each, and only France and Brazil have won both games played. Portugal will reach the round of 16 if it defeats Uruguay.
The victory in its second group stage match on Nov 28 makes Brazil the only team besides France to have six points on the table.
