Egypt’s President to be the Chief Guest on Republic Day

India’s vibrant democracy, cultural diversity, and military might are displayed in the Republic Day Parade.

Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi will be the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2023, said the Ministry of External Affairs in a press release.

The statement said that India and Egypt enjoy warm and friendly relations based on civilizational and deep-rooted people-to-people ties, adding that both countries are celebrating the 75th anniversary of establishing diplomatic ties this year.

The MEA statement pointed out that Egypt has been invited as a ‘Guest Country’ during India’s Presidency of G-20 in 2022-23.

While a foreign leader generally graces the Republic Day celebrations as a chief guest every year, 2021 and 2022 did not observe the norm because of COVID. The last leader to attend the January 26 event was Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro.
