A shallow, 3.6 magnitude earthquake jolts Melbourne

A shallow, 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook Melbourne, Australia, at around 11.40 PM on May 28, 2023.

The earthquake, located 6.3 km north of Greenvale, at the geographical coordinates of 37.578°S 144.854°E, occurred at a depth of 9.5km.

The shallow earthquake had varying effects on residents in different parts of Melbourne. While some reported damage to the houses, others reported tremors.

There is no threat of a Tsunami, the Bureau of Meteorology has said.

Some sources have quoted a higher magnitude earthquake.
