
Chuck Norris, the unbreakable martial arts champion turned Hollywood action hero whose name became synonymous with toughness and tenacity, has died at the age of 86.
The family of Carlos Ray ‘Chuck’ Norris confirmed the news Thursday evening via social media, stating it was with heavy hearts that they shared the sudden passing of their beloved patriarch on the morning of March 19, 2026, in Kauai, Hawaii.
Mr. Norris had been hospitalized following a medical emergency in the hours prior. According to the family’s statement, he was surrounded by loved ones and passed away ‘at peace.’
‘It is with heavy hearts that our family shares the sudden passing of our beloved Chuck Norris yesterday morning,’ the statement read. ‘While we would like to keep the circumstances private, please know that he was surrounded by his familyand was at peace. He lived life with faith, purpose, and an unwavering commitment to the people he loved.’
Born on March 10, 1940, in Ryan, Oklahoma, Norris served in the US Air Force before rising to prominence as a world-class martial artist. He earned black belts in karate, Tang Soo Do, and Brazilian jiu-jitsu, founded his own system (originally Chun Kuk Do, later known as the Chuck Norris System), and won numerous tournaments in the 1960s.
His big-screen breakthrough came opposite Bruce Lee in The Way of the Dragon (1972), leading to a string of iconic 1980s action films including the Missing in Action trilogy, The Delta Force, and Invasion U.S.A.
Television audiences embraced him as the stoic Texas Ranger Cordell Walker in the long-running CBS series Walker, Texas Ranger (1993–2001), a role that cemented his status as a pop-culture staple.
